A quality share of the $5.1 million in training assistance funds recently announced by The Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development has made its way into the St. Louis business ecosystem.

Twenty-four local employer training projects guided through the grant application process by St. Louis Community College have been approved for funding, providing the green light for customized training within multiple St. Louis business sectors. With the awarded funds, STLCC’s trainers will deliver tailored programs on lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, technical training, safety and quality, and leadership and professional development.

Don Robison, director of corporate services for STLCC Workforce Solutions Group, explains, “This is one of many ways STLCC delivers customized workforce solutions to local employers. As one of the largest providers of training and consulting services in the St. Louis metro area, we help clients improve production efficiencies and employee retention—factors that ultimately help local businesses remain competitive in a global economy.”

The 24 STLCC-guided projects approved under the training assistance program will impact workforce development across advanced manufacturing, life science, engineering, grocery, consumer packaged goods and various other industries within the St. Louis region.

“Not only will this funding help Missouri workers gain new skills, it delivers value to Missouri businesses in an area of critical need—the availability of a quality workforce,” Governor Mike Parson said. “By helping businesses train new and existing workers, we’re helping them stay competitive and remain here in Missouri.”
