Medical Assistant Students Complete Training and Start Apprenticeships with St. Luke’s Hospital

On February 9, 2018, nine students successfully completed the Medical Assistant training program, graduated with their Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification, and completed the first phase of their Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program with St. Luke’s Hospital. St. Louis Community College and St. Luke’s collaborated on the design of the 20-week accelerated program that combined classroom and lab instruction with a hands-on clinical experience. Students completed clinical rotations in St. Luke’s Medical Group departments such as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics.
To date, eight graduates have been selected for the second phase of their apprenticeship program, which is a competency-based “earn and learn” training and mentorship program comprised of 4,000 hours of learning, and take place over a two-year period. St. Luke’s Hospital is a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship sponsor and is hosting their first Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
All students accepted into this program completed the prerequisite MoSTEMWINs Portal pre-employment training program and prepared to land their apprenticeship opportunities by taking advantage of the educational services provided.
