Medical Assistant Training

Medical Assistants are needed in the St. Louis area in a variety of healthcare settings. St. Louis Community College and St. Luke’s Hospital are partnering to provide Medical Assistant training and apprenticeship opportunities. St. Luke’s Hospital is a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship sponsor and is hosting their second Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

Enrollment is open for individuals ready to learn the skills needed to perform administrative and basic clinical tasks in clinical environments. The 23-week non-credit accelerated training program is the first phase of a two year “earn and learn” training and mentorship program. The training combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience. Individuals that successfully complete the training program will be selected for the paid apprenticeship program.

The classroom instruction will be held at the St. Louis Community College Corporate College campus in Bridgeton from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The clinical instruction will take place at various clinical sites within the St. Luke’s Medical Group.

What you will learn from this program

  • Perform the basic patient care skills required of a medical assistant working in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrate safe practices while caring for patients.
  • Apply generic healthcare knowledge so that abnormal changes can be easily observed and reported and to help plan for the holistic care of patients while recognizing each person’s individual needs.
  • Demonstrate workplace behavior skills.
  • Perform basic respiratory skills.
  • Perform the basic clerical skills required of a medical assistant working in a clinical or medical office setting both in the administrative and clinical areas.

Take advantage of this training opportunity and prepare to earn your Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification. The cost of instructional materials for this program will be provided through a variety of funding sources. There are no costs to students that qualify. Apply now for the class starting July 16, 2018.
