Commercial Truck Driver Training

On August 30th and 31st St. Louis Community College will kick-off a brand new partnership with Dart Transit – one of the largest privately-owned trucking companies in America! Headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota, this family-owned and operated business has provided industry leading transportation expertise since 1934 and ranks as the 14th largest truckload carrier in America. Dart is currently expanding their operations in our region and we’re delighted to be part of helping them grow their regional driving team by training Class-A drivers for their over-the-road positions. Working with well-respected companies such as Dart provides not only good jobs and economic development for our region, but also allows St. Louis Community College to fulfill its goal of training even more quality drivers who will then go to work with financially stable and growing companies.

Dart representatives and STLCC trainers and team members will be on hand at the St. Louis Community College Forest Park campus to answer questions about the industry and Dart as well as the qualifications needed to enter into our action-packed training program. They’ll also answer questions on what it takes to have a successful driving career. Best of all, for the classes starting on October 10 and November 14 there is still grant-funding available, so there will be no cost for training for qualified candidates! Here’s what you need to know:

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day

If you just can’t wait to get more information about our Class-A Commercial Driver’s License training, call Diane Devine at 314-644-9221 or Bahi Talundzic at 314-644-9786. But we’d still love to see you come out to learn more about Dart!

Here’s what training looks like:
By combining our mutual resources, St. Louis Community College and Dart will work together to recruit, train and provide entry-level driving jobs for those who qualify and pass their Class-A Commercial Driver’s License examinations. Our excellent trainers will provide 5 weeks of high-quality instruction in the classroom, on the driving simulator, on the driving range, and over 45 hours of behind-the-wheel driving time on area roads. And, of course, much of the training will be in a Dart truck featuring the latest in equipment.

In addition to rotating through the combination of classroom, simulator and road driving, our 5-week training program covers such areas as safety, DOT rules and regulations, proper shifting techniques, pre-trip inspections, map reading, log books, handling paperwork, cargo handling, highway driving, night driving and metro driving. After learning more about trucking a couple of years ago, I can honestly say that I have even greater respect for the men and women who safely transport all of our goods around the country!
