Healthcare Occupations Training

Registration is now open for St. Louis Community College Continuing Education’s healthcare occupations training programs in phlebotomy, pharmacy technician certification and the new central sterile processing technician certification training.

Central sterile processing technician certification training, in partnership with MK Education, helps students establish a foundation in central service workflow and concerns, basic job knowledge and skills, and basic job responsibilities.

Two tiers are available for this program:

  1. Tier One is for individuals working in the field who only needs the 100 hours of classroom instruction. The fee is $2,000.
  2. Tier Two is for individuals entering the field who need both the classroom instruction and 400 hours of externship. The fee is $2,625.

At the end of this program, students will be prepared to take a national certification exam as well as for entry-level employment.

Pharmacy technician certification training, also in partnership with MK Education, prepares students for entry-level employment. The course provides 105 hours of classroom instruction and 60 hours of externship experience. Students will learn about the top medications dispensed in the United States and will be introduced to the basic concepts of pharmacy calculations for proper medication dispensing. The $2,100 tuition includes books, materials, lab fees and externships.

The phlebotomy program, which runs Sept. 2 through Nov. 13, prepares students for entry-level employment. It offers classroom, lab instruction and 120 hours of clinical experience. Program content includes basic anatomy pertinent to blood collection, as well as communication skills, specimen processing, related interdisciplinary tasks, lab experience of blood drawing techniques and practical experience of blood drawing techniques in the clinical setting. The fee is $1,400.

Registration for these programs is now under way at STLCC-Forest Park’s Continuing Education office in G-322/324. Students must register for these programs in person.
