TSA Employees Earn Certificate of Achievement

The second group of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees, the majority uniform Transportation Security Officers (TSO), received a Certificate of Achievement in Homeland Security issued by the TSA Office of Training and Workforce Engagement, at a February 20 ceremony held in their honor. Along with their certificates, the group earned nine credit hours from St. Louis Community College (STLCC) for successfully completing the three required courses.

This local group joins the more than 3,300 students nationally participating in the TSA Associates Program designed to give the TSA workforce the opportunity to earn this certificate while also earning college credit. STLCC and Lambert St. Louis International Airport are among the 88 colleges and 98 airports partnering nationwide in the delivery of the program. During the ceremony, TSA-STL also recognized its officers and STLCC for outstanding performances, which exceeded the already high standards set by the national program.

Nationally, to earn the TSA Certificate of Achievement in Homeland Security, the students must successfully complete the three required credit courses, selected by TSA. These three courses are: Introduction to Homeland Security, Intelligence Analysis and Security Management, and Transportation Border Security. Locally, since being selected for the program in fall 2010, on a semester basis, STLCC offers onsite a combination of these three courses along with additional approved credit courses for returning certificate earners. The TSA employees become students of STLCC’s Florissant Valley campus Criminal Justice department and earn credit hours toward a certificate or degree. This semester, STLCC enrolled 40 TSA employees with 21 program certificate holders continuing to earn college credit and taking Criminal Law and Procedures while a group of 19 cohorts beginning the program by enrolling in Introduction to Homeland Security.
