Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation Fundamentals Course

The Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation Fundamentals Course is a veterans-priority program that is being funded through the State Energy Sector Partnership grant. The intention of this specialized training course is to introduce participants to the basics of Solar PV installation and prepare them for entry-level employment in this field. The training includes:
- Conducting site surveys to determine the viability for solar at a specific location
- Review of PV system components
- Principles of sizing a PV system
- Fundamentals of designing a PV electrical system
- How to Install a solar array
- Basic principles of solar sales
- National Electric Code as it relates to solar
- OSHA 10
Graduates of the program have the opportunity to take the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) PV Entry Level Exam, as a way to demonstrate that they have achieved basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of solar PV systems.
Credentials:
- Certificate of Completion – St. Louis Community College
- OSHA 10 certification
- NABCEP Solar PV Entry Level Exam opportunity
Length: 6 weeks (96 contact hours); Sessions conducted Monday – Thursday from 2:00pm – 6:00 pm at St. Louis Community College – Center for Workforce Innovation at the Florissant Valley campus.
