Energy is one of the top three expenses that commercial businesses face. Building owners need trained facilities management professionals that have the knowledge, skills and ability to listen to their buildings and take appropriate actions. Learn how to make an impact on energy use and cycle time through sustainable management of facility operations, thereby reducing the high costs associated with building systems.

Attendees of this informative seminar will:

  • Develop an awareness of the roles and responsibilities of a facility manager.
  • Prepare a baseline analysis of utility bills for the purpose of future comparison & measuring improvement.
  • Understand potential challenges with building systems, including ongoing monitoring and fault detection.
  • Develop and apply measurement and verification analytics.
  • Learn what “systems optimization” is and how to tell when it is achieved.
  • Understand the role that information technology plays in effective facilities management and how to utilize an effective software developed by Talisen Technology, a St. Louis-based company.
  • Meet Robert Rives, Manager of Facilities Management for Kansas City, MO and hear about the actions KC took to reduce their energy and costs.

Who should attend

This seminar is ideal for those wanting to know more about a career in facility operations, and already have education in HVAC, energy auditing, mechanical engineering, building science, or other related education. Preference will be given to St. Louis Community College students who also happen to be veterans and/or unemployed. Others that may benefit from the seminar are energy professionals and educators interested in in energy management. Individuals currently working in the facility management field may also be interested in attending to enhance their knowledge of building energy and systems management.

About Rene Dulle

Rene is a Senior Project Coordinator in the Workforce Solutions Group of St. Louis Community College. Her experience includes developing grant opportunities, building relationships with community-partners, and collaborating on educational programs that focus on renewable energy, green building, and other areas related to the environment; Rene is a graduate of Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR (B.S. in Environment Science, specializing in Environmental Conservation and Sustainability) and St. Louis University (MBA). She is also a LEED Green Associate and currently serves on the Higher Education Sustainability Consortium.
