Legislators End Freshmen Tour with Visit to STLCC’s Corporate College

Newly-elected legislators completed their two week travelling freshman tour with visit to STLCC’s Corporate College. Every two years following the general election in November, newly-elected legislators travel to Jefferson City for their freshman tour which includes orientation into their new job responsibilities as well as a travelling bus tour of various areas of the state and visits to a myriad of state buildings, public works, urban renewal, agricultural and highway projects, and emergency relief areas. Among the stops were four at community colleges – Ozarks Technical Community College (Springfield), Three Rivers College (Poplar Bluff), Metropolitan Community College (Kansas City), and St. Louis Community College.

This year the freshmen tour ended with a visit to St. Louis Community College’s Corporate College, the college’s first facility solely dedicated to corporate education and professional development. On this last visit on their tour, legislators had the opportunity to learn about the critical role that job training and economic development partnerships are playing in reviving the economy in St. Louis and across the state. During the stop at Corporate College, speakers also discussed Lambert Airport and plans to expand its cargo facility on an international scale.

Hear the thoughts and reflections on community college and economic development by Vicki Englund (District 94), Steve Lynch (District 22), Susan Meredith (District 71), David Wood (District 58), Randy Dunn (District 23), Kathy Swan (District 147), Brandon Ellington (District 22), Bryan Spencer (District 63), Bonnaye Mims (District 27), and Caleb Rowden (District 44):
